If you have contacted your landlord regarding damp and mould and they have not resolved the issue, you may be wondering what to do next. One option could be legal action and taking your landlord to court. Legal action should always be the last resort, so speaking with your landlord first is always encouraged. We can direct you to independent advice and resources on taking legal action
When speaking with your landlord, or informing them or repairs, always keep evidence of this communication. This can be in the form of:
Call logs to your landlord
Emails to your landlord informing them or the problem(s)
Texts and WhatsApp messages to your landlord
Photos of the damage, poor living conditions or disrepair
Receipts for things you had to fix or replace
Medical reports or letters
A court will expect you to show evidence that you told your landlord about the problems and that you gave them time to fix it.
